The love you send out into the world will come back to you ten-fold.
A portion of every grace + hudson purchase is donated to charity. Giving back to others is one way we can nurture our own souls, and I wanted to build a business with some soul. Try it - the next time you are feeling down and out, give a smile to a stranger who looks like they need one, or buy coffee for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop. I promise you, it'll instantly attract more loving, positive energy your way. A new charity will be selected every 6 months because I believe we should spread love far and wide!
From now through October 31, 2019, g+h will donate to PAWS Chicago (click here to visit their website). PAWS Chicago is a no-kill shelter founded in 1997. The founders were motivated to start this non-profit organization after they learned that Chicago's city pound had one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country. Over 93% of the animals taken into the pound were killed. And homeless pets were the problem. The founders were convinced that if the public became aware of the homeless pets problem and saw these animals, they would be adopted. They strived to establish a no-kill shelter with this objective in mind. The response was better than they could have imagined! Since 1997, PAWS Chicago has completed almost 60,000 pet adoptions and has become an amazing force in the city where I live. I love their mission and their impact.
I chose a non-profit related to animals because my dog Cooper has a special place in my heart. If you've been following along with grace + hudson on Instagram (here), you've probably seen Cooper. He's been by my side since 2008 and he's truly a girl's best friend. I got Cooper when I was dealing with depression as a result of my first job as a lawyer. I absolutely hated my career as a lawyer since I walked into the doors of my very first law firm job. To say it was slowly killing my soul is no exaggeration. You probably wouldn't have recognized me as the same person back then. I started seeing a therapist to deal with the depression and determine how I could get out of the profession. There were deep feelings of unworthiness, lack of confidence, lack of self love, and a desire to please others underlying my issues with my career. The therapist suggested that I get a pet, as the unconditional love of a dog in particular might be helpful to soothe all the raw emotions I was feeling at the time. I grew up with family dogs my whole life so this was just the directive I needed to finally get my own dog. The way that Cooper has added to my life cannot be understated. He is my partner in adventure (we sure have had a lot of them!) and has been my rock of unconditional love through some of the hardest times. We're rarely apart and he's truly a special member of my family. The joy he shows when I walk through the door never gets old and I'm grateful for all the love between us. If you've been thinking of adopting a pet and you're in the city of Chicago, I urge you to explore the idea! Visit PAWS a few times, check out their website, and you might just find the newest member of your family.
Donations will be made to PAWS Chicago from grace + hudson between April 1, 2019 and October 31, 2019.
